TO:                  All Veterinary Students

FROM:            Dr. Rhonda Pinckney, Associate Dean of Students, SVM

DATE:             2 December, 2008

SUBJECT:     Control of Animals in Veterinary Lecture Halls

It has been reported that veterinary students have been bringing animals into the Veterinary School Lecture Halls for evening study sessions and in so doing leave animal hairs and odor in the buildings.

Please note that the Department of Public Safety and Security has been alerted of this and will be issuing tickets to students caught violating the St. George's University policy regarding animals in lecture halls.  Students who have animal/s with them will be fined and asked to leave the lecture halls or building with the animal/s.

According to the 2008/2009 St. George's University Student Manual:

"Animals are not permitted in any building.  Exceptions are seeing-eye dogs, service dogs, campus security dogs, animals under care and treatment in the veterinary medical complex, research animals housed in University buildings or animals used as part of an academic program."

All students have received a copy of the student manual and should be familiar with this policy.  We will ask security to enforce these rules both during school hours and after hours.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Dr. Rhonda Pinckney
