North American Veterinary Licensing Examination
(NAVLE)
Candidates are advised to check details on the website of National Board of Veterinary Examiners (NBVE) for details and for practice questions (www.nbvme.org).
When is the examination available?
The NAVLE can be taken within 8 months before graduating. There are two windows for taking the NAVLE, the next two windows being November 17th to December 13th 2008 and April 23rd to 25th 2009. Candidates must have passed the BCSE (ECFVG) or QE (PAVE) (Step 3 of these programs).
At SGU SVM there are three graduating dates per year, January 31st, June 26th and September 30th.
Important detail:
All NAVLE candidates must be approved by a licensing board (for a list of boards see the website www.aavsb.org– boards differ in their requirements, fees and in their deadlines). The candidate must submit this licensing board approval application with their NAVLE application. There is a table of licensing board NAVLE application preferences on the website (www.nbvme.org).
Some boards require the NAVLE application direct to the NBVME office and in that case the deadline is 92 clear days before the opening of the NAVLE testing window.
California – AAVSB handles eligibility review for California. Those wanting to take NAVLE through California should apply online at the AAVSB website and complete the NAVLE application on the NBVME website.
Printed candidate bulletins are distributed by the NBVME to licensing boards for passing on to candidates. It is also available at the above website.
