New NJVMA Externship Program for students on Clinical Rotations

The New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association would like to invite students on clinical rotations to participate in a new externship program that will provide stipends of $1000 to support the expenses of participating in the program.

The stipends will be awarded to students who secure an externship with an NJVMA member practice and successfully complete the plan they submit as part of their application for achieving the goals they set for themselves for their externship.  There will be ten externships approved each calendar year.  Students are encouraged to apply early, since the stipends will be awarded to the first ten applications that are judged suitable by the NJVMA Membership Committee.

Students will be asked to submit a brief essay explaining why they want to participate and what they hope to gain from the experience.  They will also be required to submit a letter of approval from the Office of Academic Affairs acknowledging approval of the student’s externship plan.

All NJVMA member practices are eligible to participate in this program, however, those offering an externship in one year will not be eligible the following year.  Students may obtain an application and a list of participating practices by using the "Contact Us" function at www.njvma.org.  They may also explore all NJVMA practices through the "Find a Veterinarian" function on the website, since it is very likely that there are practices which would like to participate but have not formally indicated their interest.
