The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) has awarded its SGUSVM Chapter the title of Most Active Chapter and a $500 cash prize in a contest which involved the AAHA chapters of all veterinary schools in the United States and the Caribbean. The SGUSVM Chapter had a total of twenty-four chapter activities, rivaled only by the Oklahoma State University Chapter with its nineteen activities.
One of the AAHA's largest Student Chapters, the SGUSVM Chapter has over 70% student membership. The Chapter, which was introduced in Fall 2002, uses informative lectures, hands-on wet labs, and up to date demonstrations by qualified vets to promote the ideals of the AAHA.
The AAHA chapter at SGU has worked alongside the Student Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society ( SVECCS) club to facilitate emergency medicine work; the Pfizer Animal Health representative to provide free vaccinations, endo-parasitic and ecto-parasitic control for students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, the Chapter has worked closely with the American Veterinary Identification Device (AVID) chip representative to provide free microchipping to students; the Exotic and Wildlife Society (EWS) club and their wet labs to promote avian and exotic medicine; Student Government Association (SGA) and their charities. At World Rabies Day, observed on April 11, 2008, the Chapter also facilitated education through involvement with Student Affiliate of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SAAVMA) and other clubs.
We congratulate them on their accomplishment and wish them continued success. Keep up the great work!
