Upcoming SVM Awards Ceremony

The School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) is pleased to announce its biannual Awards Ceremony, scheduled for Friday, November 21, 2008 at the Bell Lecture Hall, followed by a reception at the Caribbean House.

Each term, the SVM Awards Ceremony provides an opportunity to recognize the outstanding contributions of students, faculty and staff who have either made significant contributions to our veterinary school, or who have excelled in certain areas.

This term we are pleased to offer two new awards:  The Banfield Golden Apple Award for the “Best Lecturer” and the Banfield Student Award. The Golden Apple Award is the very first Banfield award of this type, to be offered by a veterinary school. To be eligible for this award, faculty members must be permanent members of the SVM faculty.  The successful award recipient will receive a golden apple bearing his/her name along with the current year and a check for US$250.00 which will be presented by the Banfield Student Ambassador.  The other new award, the Banfield Student Award, is open to all full-time veterinary students who have participated in a Banfield Student Job program.  To be eligible for this award, students must have a GPA of 3.0 or above, present a recommendation letter from a mentor doctor at a Banfield Hospital and provide a description of what the Banfield vision means to them.  Recipients of this award will receive US$1,000.00 which will also be presented by the Banfield Student Ambassador.

Other awards will be sponsored by both international and local companies including Novartis, Hill's, Fort Dodge, Pfizer, La Belle Creole Restaurant, Sapphire Restaurant and Bar, Mona Lisa Restaurant, Flamboyant Hotel, Calabash Hotel, Nick’s Donuts, Dive Grenada Scuba Centre, Coyaba Beach Resort, Di Vino’s Wine Bar, Rex Grenadian Hotel, Dodgy Dock at True Blue Bay Resort, Carib Sushi, The Red Crab, Prickly Bay Marina and Gath’s Restaurant at Monmot Hotel.

All ballots for the awards ceremony will be distributed during the first week of November.
