Dr. Lucian Telesford - First Grenadian to Graduate from SGUSVM

In June 2007, Dr. Lucian B. Telesford had the distinguished honor of becoming the first Grenadian to graduate with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Degree from St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine (SGUSVM). Dr. Telesford, who completed her undergraduate education at St. George’s University School of Arts & Sciences prior to being accepted to SGUSVM, completed her fourth-year clinical training at the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine in Gainesville, Florida.
Dr. Telesford has always had an interest in pets and their welfare, which eventually led her to pursue veterinary medicine as her chosen profession. She is currently employed as an Instructor at the SGUSVM’s Small Animal Hospital.
Her plans include aiding with the advancement of patient care and the execution of quality veterinary medical practice in Grenada and the Caribbean. To this end, she is an executive member of the Grenada Veterinary Medical Association, the sole registered professional body for veterinarians in Grenada. Dr. Telesford recalls realizing the importance of public education, a turning point which came during a lesson on zoonotic diseases. Consequently, she is actively involved in public education and community outreach. Her hope is that a career in veterinary medicine will enable her to contribute to the profession, and to help foster greater interest in the welfare of animals.
Next week’s issue of Paws Print will feature another Grenadian SGUSVM graduate.
