Welcome to the 96th issue of the SVM Paws Print!

What’s NEW this week: Aug 21, 2009

Welcome from the Paws Print Team

Dear Paws Print Readers,

A hearty welcome to all those of you joining the School of Veterinary Medicine for the first time, and a very warm welcome back to those of you who are returning - we hope that you enjoyed a well deserved break. We have some good news:

On Monday, August 17 and Tuesday, August 18, 2009, seventy-three incoming Term 1 students participated in our professionalism course, Professional Attributes Workshop (PAWS).  PAWS focuses on the development of life skills - skills relating to communication, teamwork and professionalism - the skills and attitudes that make our students more well-rounded persons, persons that are not only technically excellent veterinarians, but successful veterinarians.

After completing this professionalism workshop, the students were officially welcomed into the veterinary society at the SVM White Coat Ceremony which was held at the Bell Lecture Hall on the evening of August 19, 2009. To find out a little about the White Coat Ceremony, we invite you to read: SVM WCC – Fall ’09.

This term we are also happy to report that eight of our graduates recently passed the Statutory Membership Examination of the United Kingdom’s Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.  These eight graduates represented fifty-seven percent of the total number of veterinarians passing the examination.  To read more on this story, please follow this link: http://www.sgu.edu/news-events/news-archives09-rcvs.html

As we embrace the term ahead, we invite you to make your story the Paws Print feature story by submitting stories (with accompanying photo(s)). You may also send us your perspective on an SVM event, a fundraiser you planned or held, activities in your student group, a career success story, a research breakthrough or an ethics article – your story can be on virtually any topic.  We encourage you to take this opportunity to share your experiences and showcase your talents.

We wish each of you all the very best during the term ahead and we hope that you will visit Paws Print each week, as we provide information and details about all current and upcoming SVM projects, activities and news.

Best wishes,

The Paws Print Team
