US $1,000.00 donated to student chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association
After expressing what a privilege it was for him to meet with five student leaders, Jamie MacGeorge, Josh Ames, Calli Goad, Alison Achey and Brittany King, during his visit to St. George's University, SVM White Coat Ceremony Keynote Speaker, Dr. Roger K. Mahr, Immediate Past President of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), graciously offered to donate US$1,000.00 to SAAVMA - our student chapter of the AVMA.
At a SAAVMA meeting on Tuesday September 4, 2007, Dean Raymond Sis was happy to present a check for US$1,000.00 to Jamie MacGeorge, student chapter president. Of the funds donated, Dr. Mahr requested that $500.00 be designated in support of the "Run for Rabies", which was part of the World rabies Day activities and took place on September 8. The other $500.00 is to be designated to the SAAVMA travel support fund for the 2008 Student AVMA Symposium in March 2008.
Dr. Mahr expressed that he was particularly impressed by the students’ leadership initiative to establish collaboration with the students of the School of Medicine with their "Run for Rabies" and subsequent combined Rabies Vaccination Clinic for dogs and Health Education Clinic for the people of Grenada. Dr. Mahr stated that “the presence of the student leaders as well as the presence of many upper class students at the White Coat Ceremony also significantly demonstrated strong professional support and unity within the School of Veterinary Medicine.”
We thank Dr. Mahr for his generous support of our student chapter of the AVMA.
