One Health One Medicine Clinic

In an effort to give back to our host country and as a community outreach project, the School of Veterinary Medicine, the School of Medicine and the Department of Public Health at St. George’s University have joined forces to provide the Fifth One Health, One Medicine Clinic, free to Grenadians and their pets on Saturday, April 18, 2009.  The clinic will take place under St. George’s University tents at Grand Mal, St. George’s from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.   

Medical students and clinicians will be conducting free health checkups for blood pressure, blood sugar, vision and hearing.  Breast examinations will also be available for interested persons.  Veterinary students and clinicians will provide free physical examinations, dewormers, and Merial and Intervet sponsored DAP-R 3 Year Continuum Vaccinations, Corona/Leptovirus Vaccinations, and single Rabies Vaccinations to pets. Dogs and cats are welcome.

An integral part and focus of the clinic will be the prevention of and education provided about zoonotic diseases that residents of Grenada can contract from animals.  This will be done via interactive sessions and games.  New to the clinic will be the assistance of students and personnel from the Department of Public Health during interactive public health sessions. 

Two major veterinary pharmaceutical companies have generously donated to this upcoming event. Merial has donated 500 Rabies Vaccines and Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health has donated 200 combination and single vaccines including Rabies, Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus, Leptovirus, and Corona Virus. Hill's has donated dog treats and food, while Pfizer and Novartis have contributed to the operational costs. Without the support of these outside entities combined with St. George’s University, these events would not be possible.
