Banking In Grenada

There are branches of all banks in Grand Anse and the town of St. George’s. Generally, opening hours are 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, with extra hours on Friday afternoons. They are closed on weekends and public holidays.

The main banks on the island are:

  • RBTT (this is the only bank on campus)
  • First Caribbean International
  • Grenada Co-operative Bank
  • Republic Bank
  • Scotia Bank

There is an RBTT branch with an ATM machine on campus. Hours vary from bank to bank, but the RBTT branch on campus is open from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday. All local banks are closed on the weekends. Extended hours are available during Orientation.

Setting up an account:
A bank account can be set up with cash or Traveler's Checks, and a debit card from home can be used to transfer money into your Grenadian bank. Traveler's Checks remain the safest, easiest and quickest way to start a savings account. A debit card can be issued at the bank on campus.

Exchange:
When purchasing items in Grenada, prices are quoted in Grenadian Eastern Caribbean (EC) dollars, but ask if you are unsure. The EC is tied to the US dollar at US$1 = EC$2.69. A convenient rule of thumb approximation is to multiply the cost of an item by.4 to arrive at US dollars, (i.e., EC$5 x .4 = approximately US$2 ).*

The approximate rate of exchange for the British pound has been 1 BSP = EC$5.66.   A convenient rule of thumb approximation is to multiply the cost of the item by .18 to arrive at British pounds sterling.

There are many banks in Grenada; hours vary from bank to bank, but are roughly 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, with extra hours on Friday afternoons. They are closed Saturdays and Sundays. The RBTT and the Republic Bank have ATMs in St. George’s and at Grand Anse. RBTT now has a branch and an ATM on the True Blue campus.
