Footsteps
Footsteps is a student program organized to facilitate new students' adjustment to medical school life. This program will establish a communication network based on the assignment of a second year medical student to an incoming (first term) student. The matching occurs prior to new students’ arrival here in Grenada so they can contact their Footsteps buddy about what items are important to bring, how to access banks, the phone company, local vendors and transportation. New students will be matched to current students according to gender, age, marital status and regional location.
As the students progress through the medical curriculum they can stay in contact with their underclassmen buddies and relay their experiences from each location. Through correspondence or the internet, communication and exchange of information can be passed on about any aspect of medical school life, extending even into postgraduate medical education. By maintaining the connections through Footsteps, we hope to interconnect all members of the SGU community - the students, faculty and alumni, both here in Grenada and abroad.
We are excited by the prospects of this organization that will help our fellow students and the university eliminate communication barriers at all levels. It is our hope that we can create a large network that will be beneficial to the SGU community. We hope that this program will lay the foundation for students to take the initiative to help each other as they progress through their own medical journey and make the transition for their colleagues a smoother one. Participation in Footsteps is entirely voluntary and welcomes all students at SGU.
